A Hidden Asset

Today's Verse:

But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain. ~2 Kings 11:2

Are you in possession of a hidden asset? By this, I mean, do you have something very useful, meaningful, and profitable that benefits you or other people? Athaliah was engaged in a violent campaign of tyranny and murder. She killed all of King Joram’s sons to prevent any of the royal seed from ascending the throne after his death—all except for Joash. We are told that Jehosheba and Jehoiada hid him from her. For six years, Joash was hidden from Athaliah. This morning, let us see how God uses your hidden asset. 

We see his potential. 

Joash was an infant when he was hidden. To the wicked Athaliah, Joash stood in the way of her agenda. She typified liberal feminism and had no conscience about the murder of an innocent baby. She saw no value in this baby. On the other hand, Jehosheba saw potential in this baby boy. She saw a life dedicated to the glory of God. She saw a future king. She saw the kingdom reestablished under his reign. She saw Athaliah being overcome and the rightful king on the throne. Your hidden asset has potential beyond what you think. Your hidden asset is your ability to pray to the God Who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. 

We see his protection. 

A hidden asset must be protected. Your passwords and usernames must be protected. Your personal safety must be protected. Your virtue must be protected. Your prayer and quiet time must be protected. Your secrets between you and your spouse must be protected. Your reputation and character must be protected. Your ability to say the right things at the right time must be protected. Jehosheba protected Joash from attacks and all other risks. 

We see his preparation. 

For more than six years, Jehosheba and Jehoiada prepared Joash for the day he would ascend the throne as the rightful king of Judah. Preparation cannot be rushed. Preparation involves much time and your full attention. Your hidden asset must be honed and developed in privacy and prayer. It could be that Joash had a greater education in private than most young people his age received in public. He attained an unmatched maturity for someone who was seven to eight years old. He attained a greater heart for God when he came to the throne than most men three times his age. Are you someone who wants to do something great for God? Then it is important that you devote yourself to preparation in the Word, prayer, practice, and the power of God. 

We see his presentation. 

Jehoiada and Jehosheba knew when the day had come to present Joash as king. When Jehoiada gave the orders for Joash’s presentation, no one questioned him. The men involved in the presentation had also been prepared. They did not see a 7- or 8-year-old child. They saw a young boy who had discernment, courage, maturity, power, and the hand of God on his life. They saw a deliverer, a sovereign, and a true leader from God. Because he was a hidden asset, his presentation took Athaliah by surprise. She could not withstand the power of the presentation and was easily defeated. 

Your hidden asset is a devoted life developed in secret with God. Keep it out of everyone's view except God's, and let Him prepare you for a life of great accomplishment.
