All the Treasures

Today’s Verse:

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ~Colossians 2:3

Paul was concerned for the spiritual growth of the believers at Colossae. False teachers had infiltrated the church and were teaching a “watered down” and powerless Jesus. These false teachers were teaching that Jesus could not be 100% God and 100% Man. Thus, these believers had become stunted in their growth and did not fully appreciate the fullness of Christ. Paul challenged these believers to realize that Christ is our Hope of glory. Paul emphasized that in Jesus "are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." He was saying that the Lord Jesus is a treasure chest of wisdom and knowledge to every believer. Consider with me this morning the rich treasures that are found in the Lord Jesus.

There is the treasure of His forgiveness.

Colossians 1:14 says, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” We have the great treasure of our sins being completely washed away and forgiven because of the shed blood of Christ. Every sinner who comes to Jesus is assured that his sins and iniquities are remembered no more. Forgiveness of our sins entails the forgiveness of the sin debt and the complete clearance of our record so that there is no trace of any sin. Our record is expunged, and God looks on us as if we had never sinned.

There is the treasure of His fellowship.

Fellowship with Jesus is our privilege to abide in His presence at all times. He does not turn us away! He delights in us coming into His presence at all times with the sacrifices of praise. Fellowship with Jesus is taking time to abide in Him through His Word and prayer. It is allowing Him to speak to us through His Word and us speaking to Him through prayer. It is the Word of Christ dwelling in us richly in all wisdom. Fellowship gives us sweet assurance of His love and help in our life.

There is the treasure of His foresight.

In Him are hid the treasures of wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge that is acquired through experience, instruction, and prayer. As we dwell deeply with the Lord, He gives us the ability to make good decisions as we walk by faith and not by sight. We can see ahead and plan ahead. He gives us a vision for our life and the action plan that we need to make things happen. His foresight keeps us out of trouble. His foresight helps us to make wise decisions and not regret the path that we have chosen. Foresight enables us to decide wisely and avoid unnecessary heartaches.

There is the treasure for our future.

Our future in Christ is unprecedented and one to look forward to. Our future is one that is guaranteed in Heaven. John 5:24 tells us, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” Then, Jesus tells us that He is come that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly. It is a future that is a predictable. It is a future where our footsteps are prearranged. It is a future that is a treasure chest of blessings untold.

Don’t let your faith become stunted. Search the Scriptures, and discover the treasures that you have in Jesus. “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him.” Open the treasure chest of God’s Word, and taste and see that the Lord is good!

Have an abounding God Morning!
