Today’s Verse
The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; ~Proverbs 30:25
Solomon speaks about four things that are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise. We tend to despise small things. For instance, have you ever said, “I’ll crush you like an ant”? Small things are not strong in our eyes, but they are exceeding wise. God uses small things. He used a little maid to tell Naaman about Elisha. He used a little lad who gave five small barley loaves and two small fishes to feed a large multitude. He used a widow’s little mite as a powerful sermon illustration. Let us see a lesson from the ant about the importance of foresight.
Ants are insignificant.
They are called “a people not strong.” In comparison to humans, they are not strong. Sometimes, we feel insignificant. We might not think we are smart, possess great strength, have great talent, or can do very much. However, God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the mighty. God is more attracted to our weaknesses than to our strengths. Whatever your weakness is, surrender it to God for Him to use for His glory.
Ants are industrious.
They provide their meat in the summer. Ants teach us diligence, discipline, and duty. They do not have to be told what to do and why they should do it. Ants are contrasted to the slothful person. The person who is lazy, indolent, and lacking motivation is encouraged to study the work ethic of the ant. Jeremiah said, “It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.” We are made to work. Then, notice that they are disciplined. Discipline means you do what you are supposed to do, without being told. Discipline means you operate by a schedule. Discipline means you oversee your schedule, and it is not your schedule overseeing you. Discipline means you find a way to make things work.
Ants are instinctive.
Ants prepare for the future! People are to prepare for the future! You are to prepare to meet thy God! You need to be prepared for where you will spend eternity: Heaven or Hell? Ants prepare for coming changes! They prepare their meat in the summer. Winter will come, and food will be scarce or unavailable. We must be prepared for coming changes! We must prepare for the Lord’s coming! Ants prepare for tough times! They redeem the time. The opportunities are now.
Ants have insight.
They are little, yet wise. They have enough wisdom to gather their meat in the summer. Are you wise, according to God’s Word? Are you wise like the ant? “A wise son heareth his father’s instruction”! “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise”! “The wise in heart will receive commandments“! “He that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise“! “There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise“! “He that winneth souls is wise“!
Foresight is being able to look ahead and make the right plans. The ants are little, but exceeding wise. Study the lessons from the ant, and be a Christian who plans ahead.
Have a wise God Morning!
