Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. ~Hebrews 10:35
Have you ever gone through some items that you felt did not have any value or need, and as you were about to throw it out, someone said to you, “Don’t throw it away!”? The believers Paul was writing to were having a tough time spiritually. Due to their spiritual immaturity and lack of discernment, these believers were being taught false doctrine and encouraged to walk away from what they believed about Christ. They arrived at a dangerous place spiritually where the lies that they were listening to were tempting them to throw in the towel and stop living for the Lord. Our devotion this morning encourages us to not throw away our confidence that we have in the Lord.
This rock is our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. He is the chief cornerstone of our faith. He is the stone that the builders rejected and has become the head of the corner. He is the Rock which can never be moved. He is the solid Rock upon which we stand: all other ground is sinking sand. With Christ as our Rock, we are stable and strong.
These responsibilities demand that we walk by faith and not by sight. They are the commandments, precepts, and promises of the Word of God. They are the foremost duties of proclaiming the gospel message for the salvation of sinners and advancing the cause of world missions. These responsibilities demand that we love the brethren and serve one another in the Lord.
These risks include betrayal, hatred, rejection, disappointments, and many hurts. We will have adversarial challenges that are bent on discouraging our faith and walk with God. Sometimes we will be tempted to quit. Sometimes we might get hurt and will want to keep a distance from others. We must realize that living for the Lord entails risks that we will have.
Don’t throw away what you have! Remember those who have invested in you. Think about the people who look up to you, and consider your testimony as an encouragement to their faith. Think ahead of the day in which you will stand before the judgment seat of Christ for your rewards. Don’t throw it away! There is too much at stake!
Be encouraged this morning that God is for you. Be encouraged that someone is praying for you that your faith will not fail. Don’t give in to the temptation to cast away the hard work and investment made in your life. Stay faithful, firm, and focused. Keep your eyes on the Lord and just keep going. There is a reward that awaits you. Cast not away your confidence!
