Eagle Power

Today's Verse:

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. ~Psalm 103:5

Eagles are considered the most majestic of bird species. They are a wonderful spectacle to behold in the sky. They are considered masters of both sky and land. Eagles are mentioned 34 times in Scripture. Psalm 103 is a psalm of praise. David was praising the Lord with all his soul for God’s mercies, forgiveness, and care. In Psalm 103:5, he says that God’s care for us is so good that our youth is renewed like an eagle’s. Let us see how the strength of an eagle is ours for the asking.

We can see like an eagle. 

Eagles have keen eyesight. They can see movement and objects from very far away. They can see from a distance what land animals cannot. They are one of the few animals that can look farther ahead than others. An eagle’s sight beautifully pictures the importance of having a vision for our lives. Where there is no vision, the people perish. Vision is seeing things that can be and should be. It is seeing buildings where there are no buildings. It is seeing churches being started in places where the gospel was not previously preached. It is seeing possibilities where there are problems. We must have a vision for the future. We must live our lives according to a vision for things that can be. When our vision is renewed, our energy and vitality are renewed. 

We can soar like an eagle. 

Eagles ascend to great heights. They are not afraid to spread their wings and fly into areas where they had not flown before. They soar above other birds. They soar whether there is wind or no wind. They fly as if they own the blue skies. We are to keep going higher in the Christian life. We are to keep setting and exceeding goals. We must exercise faith and take risks. We must ascend the ladder of prayer and ask God for things that are humanly impossible. When we attempt great things for God, we are like soaring eagles. Eagles want to keep soaring and ascending. In order for our youth to be renewed, we must spread the wings of faith and soar. 

We can snatch like an eagle. 

Eagles have sharp talons for snatching prey. The grip from their closed talons is very powerful. No prey they snatch will escape. Once they snatch their prey, they are off and away. Eagles are focused on the prey that they know they must seize. What a beautiful picture this is of courage, determination, and strength. Solomon said, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” We must snatch souls through soulwinning and not let the devil claim them. We must snatch victory in every endeavor. We must snatch weak believers from falling into sin. We must snatch up opportunities that God places before us. We must remember that we might only get one chance to snatch up an opportunity that God gives us. 

We can have the sustainability of an eagle. 

Eagles will fly for hours. Eagles will hunt tirelessly for food. Eagles are always alert. Eagles might get weary, but they don’t show it. Weather conditions do not stop them from doing what they do. They depict great sustainability. No wonder the psalmist said that our youth shall be renewed like the eagle’s. Sustainable Christians are being renewed every day in God’s presence through prayer and the Word. Sustainable Christians do not burn out. They do not tire out. They are refreshed and renewed so that they can see, soar, and snatch effectively. Determine this morning to be renewed like an eagle.
