Everlasting Love

Today’s Verse:

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. ~Jeremiah 31:3

Date: February 7, 2018 Title: Everlasting Love Subject: God’s Love Text: Jer. 31:3

“Years ago in the AFP News they reported the following story. A lady in Spain made the news when she chose a unique way to test her husband’s love. With the help of a friend, she manipulated her own kidnapping and sent a ransom notice to her husband. When the police discovered the kidnapping was a hoax, they asked the lady why she did it. ‘I wanted to find out what my husband would do for me,’ she replied” (https://www.biblestudylife.com/november-16.html). I’m thankful God makes very clear His love for us. In Jer. 31:3, the Lord tells Jeremiah the kind of love He has for Israel. It’s the same kind of love He has for His people, the church, today. He refers to this as everlasting love. The adjective “everlasting” strongly defines for us the degree, the duration, and destiny of the love God has for you and me.

Everlasting love is love that is UNCONDITIONAL. Unconditional love is love that loves you for who you are and in spite of anything that could be wrong or inadequate about you. There are no stipulations. There are no exclusions or limitations. It has no strings attached and is not contingent upon a performance on our part. It is love that is outright and unlimited. It is the purest form of love. It is genuine. It is truthful. It is sacrificial. It is unreserved. It is love that sent Jesus to the cross to die for every sinner. It is John 3:16 and Romans 5:8 explaining God’s love for every sinner and making possible the complete payment for the sinner’s salvation.

Everlasting love is love that is UNCEASING. It is love that has no time limit. It is love that is perpetual. There is no power that can break it. There is no means of shortening it. It is infinite and forever. It is where the greatest mercy and longsuffering is found. It cannot end. It lasts for all of eternity. Everlasting love gives us maximum security because we know God will not walk out on us. People who have been devastated by a marital divorce are susceptible to suspicion and fear about being in love again. Everlasting love erases these fears and instills within us perpetual satisfaction.

Everlasting love is love that is UNCOMMON. It is uncommon because human love is fickle. Human love is easily offended. Human love will be selfish. God’s love reaches out to the hardest sinner. Human love only loves the lovable. God’s love is giving over and over. Human love has an entitlement mindset and expects something in return. God’s love gives with no agenda. God’s love forgives and forgets. God’s love sticketh closer than a brother. It is more than a band of brothers bound together by an oath. It is love that is gives its best and is always at its ultimate in performance.

Everlasting love is love that is UNCHANGING. Time does not change it. Technology does not change it. Laws do not change it. Hostility does not change it. Error does not change it. Betrayal does not change it. Trends do not change it. It is constant, unmovable, and steadfast. It is forever predictable. It is forever powerful. It is forever saving. In John 13:1, Jesus loved the disciples unto the end.

When God spoke those words in Jer. 31:3, the Jews were displaced, defeated, and distraught. They knew that the overthrow of Jerusalem was due to their sins. When God said that in lovingkindess He would draw them, it moved them to come back.

Take a moment to rejoice and worship the Lord for His everlasting love. This is perfect love that casts out all fears.

Have a love-enriched God Morning!
