Forever is Forever

Today’s Verse:

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. ~1 John 2:17

Whenever we shop for appliances or other items of major expense, we are interested in knowing how long they will last. We are concerned about the life expectancy and durability. We desire that they will last forever. “Forever” is a word that means “never-ending.” It is perpetual. It is eternal in nature. One of the great things about the Christian life is the many things that are forever.

There is a Person Who is forever.

Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” Jesus is infinite, immortal, and never-ending. He is forever God; He is forever in His grace that saves; He is forever in His forgiveness of sins; He is forever in His mercy; He is forever in His love which will never let us go; He is forever unchangeable; He is forever in His power. He cannot become outdated, obsolete, or overrun. He is unmatched, unconquerable, and unbelievable. Jesus is forever!

There is a place that is forever.

Hebrews 1:8 says, “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” The place where God dwells is forever. Earthly thrones and governments have a limited life span. God’s throne is an everlasting throne. God’s throne is where His holiness is glorified and His judgment comes to pass. All of creation stands before God’s throne. God’s kingdom is a place that has no ending. The throne and abode of God is forever!

There is a possession that is forever.

John 6:51 says, “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” Psalm 23:6 says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” When a person places his faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, eternal life is forever. There is no limited stay in Heaven; Heaven is forever for every believer. Our abode in this life is temporary and transient, but the life that is in Christ is perpetual. The gift of eternal life is forever!

There is a publication that is forever.

First Peter 1:25 says, “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” Psalm 12:7 says, “Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” The Word of God is forever! It will outlast everything else in this life because we have a supernatural book. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” God’s Word can always be trusted because it is forever. It is trustworthy and infallible. God’s Word is forever!

There is a practice that is forever.

“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” Doing the will of God has lasting value. It is forever in its impact, influence, and importance. Doing God’s will is to live a consecrated life, give thanks always, and pray that God’s will is done on earth as it is in Heaven. Doing God’s will demonstrates our emphasis on things that will outlive us. Living for the world has a short-lived value and leaves nothing valuable behind as a blessing. God’s will is forever.

Are you focusing on things that are short-lived or things that will be forever? Don’t get so emotionally attached to things in this life to the neglect of the things that are forever.

Have a forever God Morning!
