For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. ~1 Corinthians 15:25
1 Corinthians 15 is a powerful proclamation concerning the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Without the resurrection of Christ, our faith is in vain. It also magnifies our Lord as the only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. In no uncertain terms, Jesus is King and Lord over all. Paul emphatically declares that “he must reign.”
When Jesus rose from the grave, He rose victorious over every foe. “Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph o’er His foes. He arose a Victor from the dark domain, and He lives forever with His saints to reign.” Jesus in His death defeated sin and Satan. In His resurrection, He defeated death. Death had no power over the holy Son of God. He is a mighty Conqueror with an undefeated record. No foe or weapon can match up to our Jesus. As the Captain over our salvation, no sinner who comes with repentance and in faith to Him is denied salvation. He tasted death for every man so that every man’s sin debt could be paid in full. When He will come at the close of the Great Tribulation to establish His kingdom on earth, all His enemies will be soundly defeated by the word of His mouth. He must reign!
Jesus is second to none! Jesus has no contenders who can stand up to Him. Death could not hold Him. The grave could not contain Him. Satan cannot beat Him. The world powers are matchless against Him. There is no weapon that hurts Him. There is no wisdom that surpasses His eternal wisdom. There is no burden that He cannot carry for us. There is no storm that He cannot still. There is no mountain that He cannot move. The rotation of the planets He can hold still. There is no coup that can overthrow Him. There is no humanistic agenda that is greater than Him. There are no laws that can stop Him. There is no evil that meets Him head-on. Jesus is completely undeniable in His reign. He reigns in Heaven where every knee bows and every tongue confesses that He is Lord.
Paul said, “He must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.” There is only one true King, and that King is Jesus! He is worshipped and adored for all eternity. The angels and host of Heaven sing to Him continuously. All creation sings and bows to Him. The devils tremble and fear. He has a name which is above every name. At His name, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. He must reign because He is undisputed as God. He must reign because in all things He has the preeminence. He must reign because He has won every battle for us. He must reign because He is God and God alone. Jesus is our Creator, Lord, Master, only wise God, Savior, King, eternal, immortal, invisible, and the God! He is undisputed in His reign!
This morning, take time to exalt our Lord as our supreme Conqueror, Defender, and Savior. He truly must reign!
