Today’s Verse:
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. ~Zephaniah 3:17
Zephaniah 3:14-20 is prophetical. It speaks of the glory that Israel would have when she returned to the land after years of captivity. It is also prophetical concerning God’s blessing on Israel during the millennium. Prophecies were given to foretell the future and to be a message of hope or judgment. In this case it was a message of hope. This passage is practical in nature. It gives us encouragement about the great confidence we can have when God is in the midst with us.
There is robustness when God is in our midst.
“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty.” After defeat and intimidation by outside forces, the Jews needed to be reassured that God is all powerful and mighty. They needed to hear that as long as God is in their midst, they were protected and resourced. God’s presence in our midst assures us that He has our back and our front! We are never weak, defenseless or impotent when God is in our midst. The enemy doesn’t dare to cross into our domain as long as God’s presence is with us.
There is the rescue when God is in our midst.
“He will save.” God is in our midst is our guarantee of salvation of sinners. The Jews experienced defeat and captivity at the hands of their enemies. When God intervened people were rescued from slavery. Jesus saves us from the slave market of sin and gives liberty. As soulwinners, we must have God’s presence in our midst for souls to be saved! Praise the Lord that He rescues!
There is the romance when God is in our midst.
“He will rest in his love.” When He is in our midst there is no question of how much we are loved. There is no fear in perfect love because perfect love casteth out all fear. Love is the greatest and most reliable source of security. He loves us with an everlasting love. A romantic love is when there are no secrets and the expression of love is uninhibited. He loves us with a love that will never let us go.
There is the rejoicing when God is in our midst.
“He will rejoice over thee with joy.” The Lord rejoices being with us! First, because of the relationship He shares with us. Second, because of the desire He has to spend much time with us. Third, He is not ashamed to call us his beloved friends. The question we must ask ourselves is do we rejoice over the Lord with joy as much as He does over us?
There is responsibility when God is in our midst.
“In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.” Our responsibility is to be diligent in serving the Lord. Let not your hands be slack. Don’t be idle when you should be working. “Whatsoever thine hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might.” Give 110% to everything you are tasked with. When God is in our midst, it is an opportunity to accomplish as much as possible to advance his work in the lives of others.
God is in our midst! Make sure his presence s preeminent and obvious. Enjoy being in his presence and be encouraged He never leaves us nor forsakes us.
Have a saturating God Morning!
