King of Kings
My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. ~Psalm 45:1
Of the many descriptions of our Lord Jesus Christ, we must never neglect the fact that He is King. A king implies absolute authority, a conqueror, dominion, control, power, and majesty. There is no one higher than a king. A king leads and conquers. A king acquires and possesses. A king is deserving of the adoration of his subjects. Ps. 45 is a teaching Psalm that was written among the lilies. The Psalmist was stirred deeply in his heart and affection for one King. He testifies as a scribe ready to record on parchment his description of the King of all kings, the Lord Jesus!
We see the King and His COUNTENANCE.
“Thou art fairer than the children of men.” The Apostle John describes the King Who is also a Priest: “And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;” Rev. 1:13-14. He alone is altogether lovely! Let the beauty of the Lord forever fill your mind!
We see the King Who is COURTLY.
“Grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.” A king is not given to coarse or crude words. Out of the mouth of our Lord are words that are truthful, graceful, merciful, and uplifting. Never does He return a heartbroken person with words that are judgmental or harsh! Never does a fallen or sorrowful person ever hear words that are scathing and cutting! No! Grace is poured into his lips to comfort, to build, and to restore! Let the King’s words be the food for your soul day and night!
We see the King Who is a CONQUEROR.
He is a King Who is a matchless Conqueror. He rides upon a white horse. He has a sword at His side. His arrows are sharp, and they perfectly find their way into the heart of the King’s enemies. He rides triumphantly. He is invincible in battle. He prevails in truth, meekness, and righteousness. All His enemies are scattered by His very look. All His foes have no chance in battle with Him. Let the King lead you in battle to conquer and to place your feet on the neck of the enemy.
We see the King and His KINGDOM.
“Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.” His kingdom is eternal! He rules with right justice! His throne is a place where He is worshipped and adored at all times. Crowns are cast at His feet. Human kingdoms come and go. King Jesus’ kingdom is everlasting! It is truthful, transparent, and triumphant!
We see the King and His CHARACTER.
“Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” He cannot be corrupted! He does not allow sin into His presence. He is the Lord our righteousness. There is no character flaw with King Jesus: He is holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners.
We see the King and His COLOGNE.
“All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.” His aroma is refreshing, revitalizing, and renewing. His scent draws men to Him. He is not repugnant by any means. His fragrance fills every room and heart with His sweetness. Spend time with Him, and the cologne of His Person and Spirit will overflow out of you as well!
The Psalmist wants us to behold, take in, and be an outflow of the King of kings. Let His Person and presence touch every area of your life. Let your tongue be the pen of a ready writer, and let others know how Jesus touches your life!
Have a Christ-filled God Morning!
