And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. ~Genesis 41:39-40
Genesis 41 is one of the exciting chapters of the Bible. In this chapter, Joseph is brought out from imprisonment to interpret a dream that Pharaoh of Egypt had. No one in Egypt could interpret this dream except Joseph. Without Joseph’s interpretation, all of Egypt would have experienced a terrible time of suffering. Joseph’s interpretation saved the nation and gave it prominence throughout the world. Joseph was blessed by being allowed to live this dream. Living the dream is seeing a vision for things of the future become realities of the present. This morning, let us consider what it means for us to live the dream.
We see the holy REVELATION.
“And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it. And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Ask God to give you a vision and dream for your life. Solomon aptly said, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” A dream or vision from God is his insight on something that needs to be done. It is the gasoline that enables an engine to run. It is the food that fuels activity. A dream or a vision is a cause that we live for. It is our God-given priority in life. We are made to glorify God, but a major component of giving him glory is taking hold of the purpose he has for you. Every parent should have a vision for raising their children for God’s glory. Every young person should ask God for a vision of where to spend their life. Every Christian should see the vision for doing the will of God from the heart. A vision or dream is a divine gift. Get a vision for your life!
We see the heavy RESPONSIBILITY.
It is not enough to be able to see the vision and dream. You have to live it! Joseph told Pharaoh about things that would occur for the next 14 years. Joseph knew he would somehow be impacted. Little did he realize that morning that he would be given a vital role in seeing this dream become a reality. In order for a dream to be fulfilled, there must be goals with an assigned plan of action. These goals are a measurable way of helping us get to the desired destination. Pharaoh’s dream spoke of seven prosperous years of harvest that would be followed by seven hard years of famine. The goal that needed to be met was to have enough food in storage to endure the seven years of famine. Joseph told everyone that they needed to set aside one fifth (20%) of the land and harvest for storing up for the approaching bad years. Every goal must have predetermined checkpoints to be sure that things are on track for arriving at the desired goal. There must also be faith. Every dream should be bigger than you. It will look unattainable, but without faith, it is impossible to please God. There must also be work and effort. Big dreams will never be attained if you only do the minimum needed to get the job done. Your work should entail exceeding expectations. Living the dream is a heavy responsibility.
We see the happy REWARD.
“And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number…And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.” Joseph saw the need, executed a diligent plan, and accomplished this plan within the seven years. By living the dream, Joseph was instrumental in helping many people he would have never met. By living the dream, he helped people from starvation. By living the dream, he helped his family to benefit. By living the dream, he earned a promotion that was unexpected. By living the dream, he exalted God’s name and testimony throughout the world.
Are you dreaming about something that can change lives and benefit many people? Are you willing to do what it takes to accomplish it? Consider today to be someone who will live the dream!
Have a vision-inspired God Morning!
