Maturing Faith

Today's Verse:
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; ~Hebrews 11:24
This morning, we are studying the second mention of the Moses' faith. Faith is a decision that we must make many times in our lives. We walk by faith and not by sight. The just shall live by faith. Faith can be exercised by little children and older adults. Everyone can and should live by faith. Let us see the ingredients of a maturing faith.
We see his arrival.
“By faith Moses, when he was come to years....” Moses came to the place in life as a young man where he had to decide whom he would identify with. Would he identify himself with Pharaoh’s daughter, who raised him in the Egyptian palace, or with Jochebed, who raised him in a humble, God-fearing Hebrew home? Teenagers must come to a critical decision about their lives and the will of God for them. New believers must come to the critical decision of whether to live for Jesus or to live for themselves. Whoever we are, we must come to the place of deciding to live by faith.
We see his abandonment.
“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter.” If you are going to live by faith, you have to decide to walk away from this world and its temptations. Moses decided to walk away from being called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Moses decided to abandon the comfort, riches, and opportunities that Egypt had to offer. You must make the decision to abandon Egypt. No one can make that decision for you. You must have conviction and determination that you want Jesus more than your jewels; you want the Savior and not your own success; you want Christ over your career.
We see his ambition.
“Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt....” Moses made it the ambition of his life to identify with God’s people. He knew what this would cost him. He knew it would cost him fame and fortune. He knew he would be criticized and ostracized. However, with great resolve, he decided that walking by faith with Jesus was better than living in the world with its corruption. He chose to live for Jesus even though it meant rejection. When we make a faith decision, it is not so much about what we are giving up as what we are gaining.
We see his anticipation.
“For he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” Faith sees the invisible. Moses saw God's reward in Heaven for making the decision to walk by faith. A faith decision has unwavering faith that God is. It has an unshakable belief that God can do anything but fail. It does not look at short-term gains that get you nowhere. It sees far into eternity and looks forward to being told, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Even when the going is difficult, the eye of faith never gets distracted from the eternal goal and reward. Moses looked forward to the recompense of the reward.
A maturing faith decides it is time to go all the way with Jesus. It comes to the conclusion that this is the best and wisest thing to do. Has your faith arrived at the point where, like Moses, you part ways with the failing worldly model and take responsibility to go all the way with Jesus?
