No Comparison

Today’s Verse:

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: ~Hebrews 1:3

Recently, one of my neighbors negotiated a very good deal to install solar panels on his house. He did a thorough comparison of vendors to arrive at his decision. We do comparisons to make sure we get the best value for our money or what is to our best advantage. When we consider the Lord Jesus Christ, Who is God’s only begotten Son, we come to a solid conclusion that there is no comparison. There is no comparison to Jesus because of Who He is.

We see Jesus and His Person.

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person….” This powerful statement declares the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the effulgence of God. John 1:14 says, “…(And we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” As the Light of the world, Jesus shines forth as the majesty of God. Jesus is altogether God. He and the Father are equal. He and the Father are eternal. He and the Father have the same essence. He is holy, sinless, and separate from sinners. He is infinite and all-powerful, knows all things, can do all things, and is everywhere at one time. In His Person, He is almighty, sovereign God!

We see Jesus and His power.

“And upholding all things by the word of his power….” The word for upholding means “to bear up.” He is the Sustainer of all creation. All things are held together simply by the Word of His power. By His Word, He spoke the worlds and all things into existence. That is powerful and awesome! As we study Genesis 1 and how God created, we must pause to think of the power of the phrase “And God said.” When God said, “Let there be light,” it came into being. When God said, “Let us make man in our image,” He made man with intelligence, a will, a soul, and a spirit. I am thrilled every time I read “And God said,” “And God created,” “And God made,” and “And God blessed.” Jesus is Creator God; Jesus is Sustainer God; Jesus is completely God!

We see Jesus and His payment.

“When he had by himself purged our sins….” This phrase speaks of Jesus in His sacrificial and substitutionary death for every sinner. By Himself, He was the Lamb for sinners slain. By Himself, He is the sole Mediator between God and man. By Himself, He was the sole ransom price for sin. By Himself, He shed His sinless, personal blood as the payment price. “By himself” means no one else could satisfy the Father’s demand for sin to be paid in full. His shed blood and death is the means by which a sinner is cleansed from his sins. Jesus washed us from our sins in His own blood (Revelation 1:5).

We see Jesus, Who is princely.

“… Sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” When Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He resumed His place at the Father’s right hand. There He sits gloriously, as our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is our Prince of Peace. He is far above all principalities and powers. He sits on His throne and is worshipped as being worthy of glory, honor, and praise forever and ever.

There is no comparison to Jesus! He is altogether lovely. Praise Him this morning! Love Him with all your heart this morning! Worship and adore Him: there is nothing and no one who compares to Jesus!

Have a worshipful God Morning!
