No Other Name

Today's Verse:

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. ~Proverbs 18:10

We all know that some names carry more weight than others. One man told me many years ago that “who you know is more important than what you know.” Someone who has a prestigious name that is powerful can get us into places and authorizations that may be nearly impossible under normal circumstances. Our devotion this morning centers on the power and prestige of the name of the Lord. Let us consider this morning how there is no other name like the name of the Lord.

There is salvation through the name of the Lord.

In Acts 4:12 we read, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” In Romans 10:13 we read, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Only through the name of Jesus can a man be saved from his sins. The very name of Jesus means “salvation is of the Lord.” There is no salvation through any other name except the name of Jesus.

There is safety in the name of the Lord.

His name is described as a strong tower. It is the only refuge powerful enough to shelter us from the fiery darts of the wicked one. His name gives a place of fortification from the filthy threats of the devil. We are told that "the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." His name gives us confidence. His name gives us strength. His name alone gives us safety. When we consider all of the compound names of God that begin with "Jehovah" or "El," we realize that a specific attribute is tied to that name. No weapon of the enemy can topple our strong tower. It is a name that gives us safety and hope.

There is success through the name of the Lord.

When we pray in Jesus' name, we have powerful, guaranteed access into the presence of God for our prayers. Coming to the throne of grace in Jesus' name shows our humility and dependence. When we pray in Jesus' name, God is glorified. When we pray in Jesus' name, demons flee away. His name gives us access into the presence of our Lord.

There is the service in the name of the Lord.

“From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.” His name is to be honored above any other name. His name is to be praised along with His attributes. Praising His name shows our honor for Him. Praising His name shows our reverence for Him. We are to do all things in the name of the Lord.

Think of it. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. It is a name that cannot be eradicated. It is a name that cannot be conquered. It is a name that is all powerful. It is a name that is eternal. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. There are a lot of trustworthy names, but no name is a sanctuary and place for safety like the name of the Lord. Run to this tower, and find safety there!

Have a Christ-satisfying God Morning!
