Only Trust Him

Today's Verse:

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. ~Psalm 36:7

Living for the Lord Jesus can be daunting at times. The spiritual wickedness in our world can be intimidating to us. It seems that the enemy is boisterous, bold, bitter, and blatant in their assault against God and His people. The enemy swears, slanders, and scorns everyone who professes to be a Christian and lives for God. We are accused of being hateful, hostile, and hurtful to their cause. The average Christian would rather not be confrontational but instead run from the enemy. However, God gives us hope. Psalm 36 is David’s reflection on God’s faithfulness to him in spite of the threats and caustic assault of the enemy. This morning, we are exhorted toonly trust Him.”

We see the essence of the wicked.

David makes a very strong and truthful description of the wicked. There is no fear of God in his eyes; he flatters himself; the words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he devises evil upon his bed; he has left off doing good; he does not abhor evil; he sets himself in a way that is not good. The wicked is unashamed of his agenda and goal. The wicked has a disregard for God and His Word. The wicked is constantly plotting ways to overthrow morality and truth. He seeks to advance a liberal, unrighteous, and Christ-hating agenda. He despises prayer and Bible reading in public. He encourages immoral behavior. He calls evil good and good evil. The essence of the wicked is that there is fear of God in his eyes.

We see the encouragement against the wicked.

In spite of this intimidating, in-your-face attitude of the wicked, David had his eyes elsewhere. David had his eyes upon the Lord! David teaches us how we can be encouraged when the tide of evil seems to have the advantage. First, David found encouragement in the holiness of God. David remembered and stayed steadfast upon the attributes of God. He wonderfully speaks of God’s mercies, faithfulness, righteousness, and judgment. By remembering God’s attributes, he was encouraged that God is always in control. Second, he found encouragement in the house of the Lord. He said, “They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.” God’s house is a place where we get our strength and enablement. We must find our refuge among God’s people and from the counsel of His Word that is preached. Third, he found encouragement in the heritage of God’s people. “How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings... O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.” You can trust Him. You can find safety and confidence in Him. God is with you no matter how bleak the situation may appear. Be encouraged by putting your trust under the shadow of His wings.

We see the eventual of the wicked.

The wicked do not win in the end. They are cast down in their pride. They cannot overcome the righteousness of God. When they fall, they do not rise up again. They might have a temporary season of victory, but they will fall and never rise again. There is hope for every believer! The sun rises every morning for every child of God. Do not be discouraged when it looks like the wicked are ahead. God is faithful and loving in preserving and undergirding us. Always remember: only trust Him!

If circumstances have you down, hope in the Lord and trust in Him. You can be satisfied by drinking from the river of God’s pleasures.

Have a confident God Morning!
