Our Refuge

Today's Verse:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. ~Psalm 46:1

Psalm 46 is one of the first psalms that I learned after I got saved. It became a verse that I quickly memorized and clung to as I went through spiritual ups and downs in my life. In this psalm, God wants us to know Who He is, how He works on our behalf, and how we are to respond to Him. The psalmist exhorts us from his personal experience how God is our refuge.

We see God is our reliable protection.

The psalmist speaks of God repeatedly as our refuge. A refuge is a shelter in the midst of a storm. It is a strong tower in time of war. It is a haven or hiding place when everything around us seems calamitous and unstable. You can find safety in the Lord. You can find protection by going to the Lord every time things are shifting and moving about in your life. Solomon said, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Make it your priority to find your shelter and refuge in the presence of the Lord when the winds of adversity start to blow in your life

We see God is our reinforcing power.

He is not only our refuge, but also our strength. Trials and problems quickly weaken us. We feel helpless and drained. In many cases, we lose our appetite, our sleep, and our focus. It is during these times of weakness when the Lord comes alongside of us. He reinforces us with His power. He gives us strength when we don’t feel like we can go on. He gives us enablement when we feel like quitting. He gives us that surge we need to keep going on. His strength becomes perfect in our weakness. Our inner man is renewed. We get up in spite of being knocked down. Instead of conceding defeat, we fight on and seek to be victors. Let God reinforce you with His strength and power.

We see God is our responsible Partner.

He is a very present help in trouble. He’s there for us as trouble starts to brew. He stands with us and for us. What shall we say then to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? God is at our side. The psalmist proved this over and over again. He calms our fears. He keeps us from falling apart. He shows us that the situation is well under control through Him. He keeps the enemy from prevailing over us. He helps us to see the problem from His vantage point and not ours. We learn faith and dependence as He comes to our side. He encourages us as our spirit starts to sink. He bandages our wounds and hurt from our affliction. He gives us songs in the night. He is a very present help in trouble.

The psalmist had proved that this verse is tested and true. Beginning now, experience first-hand in your life how God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Have a sheltered God Morning!
