Scaling the City

Today’s Verse:

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof. ~Proverbs 21:22

Strategic planning is when a person or a committee of people write out a plan of action for the accomplishment of a stated goal or assignment. This plan assigns the responsibilities, processes, timelines, and people who will get it done. It thinks through the what, the how, and the when. It is taking something that starts out as a vision and dream and deciding how it can be done. This morning, let us see the wisdom of a man who scales a city.

We see a destination.

It is called the city of the mighty. It is a city that has high walls. These walls are also very thick in size. These walls have never been breached. It is a previously undefeated city. There are many sentries and soldiers guarding these walls. It is a city that from the outside that is very well fortified from any attack. It is a city that cannot be overtaken with ease.

We see a determination.

There is a man who views this city and decides that he will conquer it. He is referred to as a wise man. He is different from other men. He is a man of vision. He sees something accomplished that no one in his time has tried to do. He is a man of faith. He believes that it can be done and it will be done. He is man of courage. He is willing to assume the many risks involved in taking this city down. He is a resolute man who is not easily discouraged and does not take “no” for an answer. Most importantly, he is a man of God. He has vision, faith, determination, and courage because he is trusting in God to lead and show him how to take this city.

We see the design.

We are told that this wise man “scaleth the city of the mighty.” He does not attack this city blindly. He puts a lot of thought into it. He has a plan of action. He makes plans for a complete conquest. Notice, he scales this city. He ascends up. He plans to climb up and take it by surprise. He intends to scale the walls and enter into that city. Once he is inside, he will bring it down.

We see the defeat.

He “casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.” He has made a thorough conquest. He has made significant captures. He has shaken the confidence of the people within. He has overcome this city! He has become a man of fame and fortune. He is the wise man who scaleth the city of the mighty.

We see the depiction.

This verse depicts for us the plan for planting churches and winning cities and countries with the gospel. We must have vision, faith, courage, determination, and a plan of action. We must scale these cities. We must ascend over the walls of paganism, false beliefs, and satanic oppression. We must bring down the confidence thereof. “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” We must cast down the strength thereof through much prayer, fasting, hard work, and resilience. “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” We must preach the gospel to every person in that city and leave no house unreached. We must scale the city to enter and stay.

God is looking for some wise men to scale the cities of the mighty. “He that winneth souls is wise.” Get a burden in your heart to be more than just a witness. Be someone who scales a city!

Have an emboldened God Morning!
