Shining Stars
Today’s Verse:
And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. ~Daniel 12:3
Daniel 12 is prophecy concerning future things to come. Daniel speaks about the Great Tribulation and of future resurrection. As a book of prophecy, it is very exciting as it gives insight about the future. It is also a practical book. It is practical concerning having strong convictions, being courageous, being excellent in what you do, prayer, and how God loves us. It is also a book that contains God’s promises. In our devotion this morning, we see a promise that God gives us regarding the importance of being a faithful soulwinner. Let us see how soulwinners are God’s shining stars.
We see the prudence.
“And they that be wise….” The Bible teaches us that it is wise for us to win souls. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30). It is wise because the soulwinner knows that it is the means God uses to deliver a soul from Hell. It is a wise work because it is being obedient to our Lord. It is wise because a soulwinner will be soul conscious: he is looking for opportunities to reach people with the gospel and to try to win them to Christ. Soulwinning is a wise choice because the winning of souls is a work that has eternal benefit.
We see the practice.
“And they that turn many to righteousness….” There is perspiration in soulwinning. Soulwinning is hard work. We have to go after sinners. Sinners do not naturally come to us: we must go after them. There is preparation in soulwinning. We should keep a running prospect list of sinners. This prospect list should be prayed over. This list should be reviewed and updated based on contacts that we make and responses that our prospect gives to us. There is persuasion in soulwinning. We must do more than give them the gospel. We must try to persuade them to get saved. Paul said, “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men” (2 Corinthians 5:11a). Don’t give up on people you are trying to win to Christ. A few years ago, I had the privilege to lead a dear lady to Christ at her door. The week after, her sweet mother got saved. I told the lady a few weeks later that I was praying for her husband to get saved. I am thankful that a little more than a year later, I had the privilege to witness to her husband, and he received Christ as Saviour! Then, there should be a plurality of people won to Christ. God said, “They that turn many to righteousness….”
We see the product.
Soulwinning is a radiant work. First, God says that the soulwinner “shall shine as the brightness of the firmament.” Think of this as the brightness of the sun at its highest point in the day. Second, God says that the soulwinner shall shine “as the stars for ever and ever.” This encourages us about the eternal work in soulwinning. It also encourages us about the testimony of the soulwinner. He shines as light in this world. He is light in the midst of darkness. The witness of a soulwinner helps a sinner find his way to God. Soulwinning is a rewarding work. God gives us a crown of rejoicing for every soul that is saved.
Be a shining star that points men to the Lord. Take a moment, this morning, to write down the names of a few people whom you will pray over, and ask God to use you to turn them to righteousness. Let your light so shine!
Have a shining God Morning!
