Shout for Joy

Today’s Verse:

But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. ~Psalm 5:11

Attending a sporting event of almost any kind brings emotion and exuberance out of almost everyone. We get excited when our team and star players score or make a great defensive play. We roar with excitement when our team plays exceptionally well. We “ahh” and “ooh” after a win. We shout for joy because our team won! David speaks about the excitement and rejoicing that should embody our worship of the Lord. We should be a people who are responding to God with shouts of joy.

We see the rejoicing of faith.

“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice.” All who put their trust in the Lord trust Him with all their heart. They do not fall back on their own understanding or try to undo what God is doing. They remove themselves out of the process so as not to interfere with what God is doing. They have committed every detail of what they can see and what they cannot see to the Lord. They have learned that it is better to put their trust in the Lord than to put their trust in men. The rejoicing of faith is knowing that you can trust in the Lord with 100% confidence. The rejoicing of faith is knowing that God answers the prayer of faith. The rejoicing of faith is knowing that God is in control and can be trusted at all times. Trusting in the Lord should move us to rejoicing.

We see the rejoicing of his fortress.

“Let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them….” God is a buckler and a shield to His people. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” He is the Lord Who fights for us. It is better to put your trust in the Lord than to put your trust in chariots. When Israel was at the shoreline of the Red Sea and the massive Egyptian army was behind them, they melted in their hearts out of fear. However, God came between them and the Egyptians as a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. God protects us and He fights for us. The battle is the Lord’s! We can shout for joy because He defends us in faithfulness and love. The arrow that flieth by day cannot touch us. He is the God of Peace Who bruises Satan under our feet. Let God fight for you! Shout for joy that He defends you!

We see the rejoicing of fondness.

“Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” The name of our Lord embodies all of His wonderful attributes. Loving the name of the Lord is loving Him. We must praise the name of the Lord from sunup to sundown. This acknowledgement includes that He is Most High God, the Almighty God, the Everlasting God, the Everlasting Father, the Lord our Banner, the Lord Who heals, the Lord our Peace, the Lord our Shepherd, the Mighty God, and many more of the names of God. There are over 300 names of the Lord in Scripture that we should become familiar with and love. Loving the name of the Lord is loving Him. Rejoice and shout for joy because He is faithful and just. He gives us grace to help in time of need.

Shout for joy that God is personal, powerful, and paternal. He is our God Who hears us and is always there for us. Rejoice, and again I say, rejoice!

Have a joyful God Morning!
