Standing in Awe

Today's Verse:

Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. ~Psalm 33:8

Are you in awe of the greatness of God? Are you in constant amazement at how magnificent and powerful God is? To be in awe of someone or something implies being astonished, amazed, and in great reverence. This morning, our devotion calls upon us to be in awe of the greatness of God.

We should be in awe of His creation.

“By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.” Creation testifies of the greatness of God. Creation is harmonious in its composition. Creation is glorious in its grandeur. Creation is powerful in its voice. From the towering majesty of the mountains, to the thunderous roar of the ocean waves, to the serenity of the evening sky, to the mysterious instincts of animals and birds—we must stand in awe of God. Imagine how God just spoke a word and creation came into existence. Imagine how God holds everything together by His Word. Be in awe of the greatness of God.

We should be in awe of His counsel.

God spoke the Word, and the worlds came into existence. God’s Word is unfailing. His Word will not pass away. His Word is counsel that stands sure. His Word is eternal counsel that leads and guides us. His counsel is the wisdom that we need for decision making. The words of men will fail us, but God’s counsel will not fail. His counsel is eternal. "The counsel of the LORD standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations." His counsel preserves us in times of difficulty. His counsel gives us needed hope when things around us are crumbling. Yes, we should stand in awe of the counsel of the Lord.

We should in awe of His covering.

His eye is always on those who fear Him. God is so protective of us that when we fear and love Him, we are never out of His sight. He is ready to move to action on our behalf. His never closes His eyes and is watchful day in and day out. With His all-seeing eye, He makes sure our path is clear and we are out of harm’s way. Hagar named the location she was at El Roi. This means "God Who sees." He sees us when we are hurting. He sees us when we have been thrown under the bush. He sees us when the enemy seeks to mount an attack against us. He sees us in the storm, and He sees us when the waves have covered our boat. Be in awe of His powerful covering.

We should be in awe of His companionship.

He is with us always, even to the end of the world. He never leaves nor forsakes us. He is our confidence when we feel like we are sinking. He is our Comforter when our hearts are heavy. He gives us peace when our minds are stayed upon Him. His companionship assures us that the enemy does not have an upper hand on us. His companionship gives us the edge in every endeavor that we take on. Stand in awe of God Who is personal! Stand in awe of God Who is personal with His creation. Stand in awe of God Who draws us closer and closer to His side.

Let’s be in awe of His perfection, His power, His performance, and His presence. Stand in awe!

Have an awesome God Morning!
