The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. ~Proverbs 10:22
Are you rich? According to Charles Schwab and Company you are considered rich if your net worth exceeds $2.4M. Being financially rich will depend on where you live and the cost of living. To be considered rich in Detroit, MI you need to have an annual income of $51,000. The extreme of this is you are not rich in Anchorage, Alaska unless your annual income does not exceed $165,000. However, the Bible says, “the blessing of the Lord it maketh rich”. Real wealth is found in the blessing of the Lord and not money and possessions. How does the blessing of the Lord make rich?
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” (Ephesians 1:3). Everyone who is saved is rich! We are blessed with the gift of eternal life. We are blessed with the forgiveness of sins. We are blessed with being adopted into the family of God. We are blessed with the Holy Spirit’s indwelling. His indwelling is described as a treasure in earthen vessels. We are blessed with more in salvation than we deserve. You are rich in Jesus Christ!
“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.”(Jerermiah 17:7). Submission is when we are in complete obedience and compliance. It is the working out of faith. Faith without works is dead. When we trust in the Lord we have decided to take our hands off of everything in our life and let God make the decisions. Faith in the Lord is allowing him to lead and guide us and not questioning him in our journey. When we trust in him we believe that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
“And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the Lord was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.” (Genesis 39:5). Potiphar committed everything he owned into the hands of Joseph. Joseph became a steward, or manager, of Potiphar’s possessions. God blessed Potiphar and Joseph for the wise and careful management of his resources. Be an excellent steward of what God has placed into your hands and watch as he blesses.
“Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.” (Deuteronomy 16:17). Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” We are encouraged to give according as we are able. Giving is when we help supply the need for God’s work. There is the giving we should be doing in our local church. We are blessed to see the needs of God’s house being cared for. We should be giving for the propagation of the gospel through missions. There is a blessing hearing the good reports of people being saved and churches started. There is the giving towards the special needs of those who are financially distressed.
Yes, you are rich! The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich: and addeth no sorrow to it.
