The Great Physician

Today’s Verse:

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. ~Psalm 147:3

One of the most trusted and well-paying occupations is that of a physician. A physician must go through many years of rigorous training, pass a state-issued licensing exam, and have validated service as both an intern and a resident. A physician is trained to keep people well, deal with illnesses of all kinds, have a thorough grasp of human anatomy, have a thorough understanding of medicines, and deal with tough life situations. As they progress in their profession, physicians learn that they cannot save everyone they treat, and many times have to deal with situations that are irreversible. This morning, we are considering the one and only Physician Who can heal. Today, we are considering the Great Physician, our Lord Himself.

We see our Great Physician and His awareness.

Our Great Physician is great because He knows all about our need. There is no human ailment, sin, weakness, or inadequacy that He does not know about. He knows what affliction that will come to us before we do. Unlike human doctors who must rely on numerous blood tests, X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs to arrive at a diagnosis and course of action, our Great Physician knows everything about us. He understands depression of the spirit, the valleys that accompany deep sorrow, the hurt from a broken heart, the infection from being defiled by sin, and the wounds that come from bitterness and betrayal. He is the only Physician Who knows us thoroughly well.

We see our Great Physician and His ability.

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” His skill set is unsurpassed and unmatched. There is no need for a second opinion with another doctor. He never fails with His patients. He has a remarkable track record. He readily takes on our broken hearts and the wounds inflicted upon us by our circumstances, enemies, or those who hurt us in an unexpected way. What a relief to know that a broken heart can be healed! What a relief to know that He heals all our diseases and forgives us of all our sins! He is the God and Lord Who heals. He told Moses to cast a tree into the bitter waters of Marah, and made these waters sweet. He touched a blind man and gave him sight. He healed the wounded Paul and enabled him to keep going. God has total and complete ability to deal with all of our spiritual diseases and wounds.

We see our Great Physician and His appeal.

Sometimes people put off seeing their doctor. Sometimes they let something go too long, and it becomes too late to treat it. Doctors do not force you to come to them. However, our Great Physician appeals to us to come to Him! “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light,” Matt. 11:28-30. He longs for us to come to Him! He personally takes on our afflictions and trials! He does not assign us to a nurse practitioner, put us on a long waiting list, or tell us that He has no time for us. He invites us to bring our broken hearts and our wounded souls to Him!

Are you hurting and broken? Are you living in fear and insecurity? Are you battling depression and a sorrowful spirit? Are you trying to get your feet back on the ground after a relationship that has left you shattered? Are you having trouble overcoming worry and anxiety? Look to the Great Physician to touch your life and perform what He says in Ps. 147:3.

Have a recovered God Morning!
