The Name of Jesus

Today’s Verse:

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. ~Philippians 2:9-11

Peter Forsyth said, "The first duty of every soul is to find not its freedom but its Master." Who is Jesus Christ to you? What does His name mean to you? This morning, we want to consider the importance of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jesus is either Lord of everything or He is not Lord at all.

There is the preeminence.

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.” Jesus' means Jehovah saves or Jehovah is salvation. Though this wicked world has made light of Jesus' name, even disparaging and profaning it, God has highly exalted Him. His name is holy. His name is the highest of all names! His name is regal in nature. His name is righteous in attribute. His name is exalted and above every other name.

There is the performance.

Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. There are those who love the Lord, who already bow their knees and confess with their tongue that Jesus is Lord. However, there are those who are profane, the wicked, the unbelieving, and the hateful who also will bow and confess. The evolutionist, the atheist, the humanist, the self-promoter, the selfish, the delusional, the deceiver, the cultist, the egomaniac, the irreverent, the nepotistic, the worldly, the educated, the uneducated, the thief, the disobedient, and the religionist will all one day bow the knee and confess with their tongue Jesus Christ is Lord.

There is the passage.

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” A sinner cannot be saved except through the name of Jesus. Salvation cannot be attained through any other name. The religions of the world mislead people to believe that salvation is available through some man: it is not! You either come to God by the name of Jesus or you cannot enter into Heaven. Jesus saves, not some method, not some man, and not some other means.

There is the praying.

We bring our petitions to God through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” We ask in Jesus' name! We have access through Jesus' name! We have approval through Jesus' name! Every prayer we make to God must be in Jesus name if we hope to see God answer and work mightily on our behalf.

Are you taking time to honor and exalt the name of Christ? Do you get excited that His name speaks of His attributes and personal relationship to us? Are you praying in Jesus' name? Are you seeing a consistent working of God in your prayer life? We must be a people who are in submission and acceptance of the power in Jesus' name! There is no other name like the name of Jesus!

Have a worshipful God Morning!
