The One and Only

Today’s Verse:

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3

The word “only” is a very strong adverb that means “none other.” It gives us the idea of exclusivley, solely, no more than, and without others. It can be defined as one-of-a-kind. In His high priestly prayer before going to the cross, Jesus prays a very earnest and intense prayer for His disciples and generations of future disciples. He is praying for their holiness and steadfastness. He is praying for generations of believers to come. He is praying for the salvation of those who have not believed on Him as Savior. In this prayer, He specifically is praying that “they might know thee the only true God.” This morning, let us fathom the fact that we worship and serve the only true God!

We see that as the only true God, He is absolute in His PERSON.

God alone is the Creator, Fashioner, and Master Designer of this world and universe. God alone is all-powerful, all-knowing, and able to be everywhere at all times. As the only true God, it is impossible for God to lie. He is all truth. He is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. He is eternal with no beginning and no ending. He is God only wise. He is the heavenly Father to all who have entered into His family by faith through Christ Jesus. He is holy and of purer eyes than to behold evil. He is the Lord of all. As Lord, He is supreme and all-powerful. He is the God of the mountain, but He is also the God of the valley. He is the Judge of all, and holds all men accountable for their actions and decisions. As the only true God, He deserves all of our worship and attention. As the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Behold your God!”

We see that as the only true God, He is atoning in His PERFORMANCE.

As the only true God, He is God Who became a man. Many men are trying to become gods, but the only true God is God Who became a man. He became like us in the Person of His Son Jesus Christ, yet without sin, to be the only acceptable sacrifice and substitute for sins. “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man,” Heb. 2:9. As the only true God, He is God Who was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself. He is God Who commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He is the God of our salvation Who gave His only begotten Son that we might be saved from wrath through Him. The exact and sufficient payment price for sin was accomplished when Jesus shed His blood and died on the cross for every sinner.

We see that as the only true God, He is authoritative in PERSUASION.

You can trust God for everything in your life! “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths,” Prov. 3:5-6.

He is a God you can trust in. It is better to put your trust in God than in men. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the Lord our God. You can trust Him with your fears. David said, “I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered from all my fears.” You can trust Him with your family. “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it.” You can trust Him with your future. “My times are in thine hand.” He is a God Who answers our prayers and encourages us to come boldly to His throne for grace to help in time of need.

Yes, He is the only true God. He is powerful, perpetual, and personal. Take time today to meditate on the greatness and holiness of the only true God Who is your Savior!

Have a God-only God Morning!
