The Secret Place
Today’s Verse:
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ~Psalm 91:1
What does the idea of a secret place bring to your mind? For some people, it might be a destination getaway for rest and vacation. For children, it might be a tree house, a clubhouse, or a hideaway. For every Christian, the secret place is dwelling in the presence of God. The psalmist called it the place of the Most High and the shadow of the Almighty.
It's a place of privacy.
It is the secret place of the Most High. It is the spot where you meet with God every day for time in His Word and prayer. It is the prayer closet where you enter in and shut the door on the distractions of the world. It is the shadow of the rock where you are shielded from the intense heat of pressures and trials. It is a place where the sign before you enter says “Welcome,” but once you are inside, the sign says “Private: Do Not Enter.. It is where you meet with God.
It’s a place of priority.
It is there that you grow in your walk with God. First, there is our relationship with God. Second, there is your refuge with God: He is our Refuge and Fortress. Third, there is our reality of God. He is “my God”: the God Who is Creator, the God Who is Almighty, the God of all comfort, the God of my salvation, and the God of peace. There is the reality of absolute faith alone in God. It is there that fear is replaced with faith and love. It is a place of daily priority.
It’s a place of protection.
It is under His wings that we can trust. His truth is our shield and buckler. He promises to protect us from the terror by night and the arrow that flieth by day, from the pestilence that walketh in darkness, and from the destruction that wasteth at noonday. He promises that no evil shall befall us nor will any plague come near our dwelling. He enables us to tread upon the lion and adder and to trample under foot the dragon. He gives His angels charge over us to keep us in all our ways. You are safe in the secret place of the Most High.
It’s a place of prayer.
This is the place of prayer. It is where we call on the Lord and wait for His answer. It is where we pour out our heart to God. It is where we exercise faith in the unseen, unknown, and unbelievable. It is where we give God the glory for the great things He does through and for us. It is where God says that He is with us when we are in trouble.
It’s a place of promotion.
We do not enter the secret place seeking God’s promotion, but it is a byproduct of spending time in His presence. It is the guarantee of deliverance. It is when God acknowledges our faithfulness with His honor. It is through the priority of the secret place of the Most High that we are satisfied with long life and are bestowed the blessings of salvation. It is where we can tell the Lord that we love Him and we can watch His goodness unfold in our life.
The secret to the secret place is that we must dwell, or abide, there. It must be the most coveted place and time of your daily life. Have you been there this morning?
