Tower Power

Today’s Verse:

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. ~Proverbs 18:10

One of the most famous towers in the world is the Eiffel Tower. Standing at 1,063 feet tall, it is an architectural icon of Paris, France. It is the most visited tower in the world. It stands upright as a symbol of strength and the French culture. Towers in the Bible were not constructed so much as an icon but as places of refuge whenever a city was under attack. A tower was always the safest place to be sheltered in due to its construction, its height, and its fortified access. This morning, we are considering how the name of the Lord is equated as a strong tower for us.

There is the supremacy in the Lord’s name.

The Lord’s name is higher than any other name given under Heaven. No other name compares to the Lord’s name. The psalmist said that the Lord’s name is to be praised from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same. His name is an excellent name, and it is a name by which every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God. The Lord’s name makes the demons tremble. The Lord’s name speaks of His glorious attributes. The Lord’s name is supreme.

There is the saving in the Lord’s name.

Peter said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” John said, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Salvation from sin is only attainable through faith in the name of Jesus alone. Unless a sinner calls on the name of the Lord, he cannot be saved. Apart from the name of the Lord, a sinner is hopelessly doomed.

There is the safety in the Lord’s name.

His name is our shelter and refuge to run to when we are threatened. His name is the safe hiding place from the vilifying attacks of the enemy. Solomon said that the righteous runneth into it and is safe. When we rely on the Lord’s name for safety, the enemies tremble. They know that they are helpless against the name of the Lord. The moment that the Lord’s name is called upon for protection, we are fortified on every level. It stands out in size and strength.

There is the supplication in the Lord’s name.

When we pray and ask in Jesus’ name, the Lord hears our prayers. “Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.” Asking in Jesus’ name gives us prestige on a level that we cannot establish on our own. Asking in Jesus’ name unlocks the treasury of Heaven at our disposal. It gives us boldness by which we approach the throne of grace. We are asking in the authority of the King of kings and Lord of lords.

The Lord’s name is a strong tower. It is indestructible, immutable, and all-powerful. Don’t run to objects, people, or sources that cannot give you the safety, the supernatural, and the advantage that you need. Stay strong in the name of the Lord!

Have a blessed God Morning!
