What's in the Air?

Today’s Verse:

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: ~Ephesians 2:2

This morning, I went for a morning run, and as I was turning the corner on my first 100 steps, the delicious smell of cooked bacon was in the air. A few months ago, the wildfires in our area resulted in very bad air quality. Air is colorless and odorless, per se. When there is something in the air that is unusual or different, we inquisitively ask, “What’s in the air?”

We see the atmosphere.

Air is the composition of the gases in the atmosphere. It is what we breathe in order to live. Clean air is essential for good health. Air is the domain of winged fowls. As early as in Genesis 1, we read of the fowl of the air. There is a majesty and a beauty in watching the birds as they fly in the air. Clean, fresh air is essential for all forms of life. We use an air quality index to determine if the air quality is good to breathe or if we should stay inside.

We see the adversary.

Satan is referred to as the prince of the power of the air. He is the god of this world. In a restricted sense, he has rule over this world. The word for power has the meaning that it is power given by permission. Satan has the power of death, but he is limited by God. Satan has the power of disease, but he is limited. Right now, our world is in a major crisis against COVID-19. This disease attacks the respiratory system and lungs. The disease is airborne and is extremely contagious. There is no vaccine against it. There is not a surefire cure. It is extremely fatal to the elderly and those who have weakened immune systems. Interestingly, Satan is the prince of the power of the air. Satan is using his power through this disease to wreak havoc on human life. Those who contract this terrible disease have great difficulty breathing. We know that the description of Satan is in a spiritual sense, but I believe that he is using his power of the air to make this disease bring fear and fatality to many lives.

We see our Advocate.

Satan is the prince of the power of the air, but every child of God has an Advocate: Jesus Christ! Satan is the prince of the air, but Jesus has the power of the air. Satan is corrupting the air, but Jesus is the Creator of the air. Satan is the prince of the power of the air, but Jesus is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. The Lord gives us the whole armor of God with which to stand against Satan. The Lord enables us to overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. We are promised: “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” Satan has power through disease, but Jesus is the Lord Who heals. Satan corrupts the air with stubborn, airborne particles to invade the respiratory system, but Jesus gives us the breath of life. Don’t let the pandemic leave you defeated. Jesus is for us and with us.

We see the anticipation.

One day, there will be a meeting in the air. This is when every saved person will be caught up together with the dead in Christ and will meet our Lord in the air. Our Lord will “descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God.” This meeting will occur swiftly, secretly, and surely. Satan will have no power to stop the saints from meeting Jesus. Are you looking forward to His coming? Will you be ready?

Have a safeguarded God Morning!
