Worthy is the Lamb!

Today’s Verse:

Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. ~Revelation 5:12

A few years ago, while preaching in Auckland, New Zealand, I had the opportunity to see and walk among New Zealand lambs and sheep. I did not realize how many varieties of sheep there are. I most enjoyed walking among the little lambs that were between a few weeks and a couple of months old. It made me very appreciative of the symbol of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. The word “lamb” is used 27 times in Revelation, with the primary reference to our Lord Jesus Christ.

We see the Lamb Who is Sovereign.

“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” A lion is the king of the beasts. Satan is portrayed as a roaring lion who walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Even though Satan is a lion, there is a Lion much more powerful that overcomes him, and this is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. As David’s descendant, the scepter shall not depart from His hand. It is important that we recognize that Jesus is sovereign, King of kings, and Lord of lords.

We see the Lamb Who is strong.

The Lamb has prevailed to open the book and the seven seals thereof. No man is able to open the book and its seals. No angel is able to open the book and its seals. The Lamb of God is the mighty God. He is the One to Whom all power is given in Heaven and in earth. He is the One Who speaks a word, and His enemies fall to the ground and are defeated. He is Creator God Who spoke the worlds into existence. He is all-powerful, matchless, and strong.

We see the Lamb Who was slain.

He is the spotless, unblemished, and sinless Son of God Who was taken by vile sinners, beaten, scourged, and crucified. There on the cross, He shed His sinless blood as the payment price for every sinner. After much physical suffering, Jesus died on the cross. The sin debt for every sinner was paid in full. God’s wrath for sin was satisfied through Jesus' substitutionary and sacrificial death. He was the Lamb that was slain to redeem us from our sins. We have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. We have been reconciled to God by the blood of His cross. In Heaven, we will see the wounds in His hands, feet, and side, and we will never forget how He endured such contradiction of sinners.

We see the Lamb Who is celebrated.

“Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.” He will receive our praises, worship, and honor for all of eternity. On earth, men despised, cursed, and reviled Him. In Heaven, all will bow down to Him and completely adore Him. From every mouth will come forth glory and blessing. We will sing with delight, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.” Let us honor Him much today as the Lamb Who is worthy. Let us bless His name from the rising of the sun to going down of the same. Worthy is the Lamb!

Have a Christ-honoring God Morning!
