Sufficient

September 8, 2019

Today's Verse:

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ~2 Corinthians 12:9

The word “sufficient” means “adequate,” “enough,” and “a perfect fit.” The Greek word for “sufficient” is used fourteen times in the New Testament and is also translated as “contented.” God says, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” In an age when most people feel like things are not enough, we must see how God is enough and sufficient for the Christian life.

He is sufficient for our devotion.

Do you ever feel like you are in a constant struggle in your walk with God? Do you ever feel like you are overwhelmed and over your head in problems, trials, conflicts, and financial debt? God’s grace is sufficient for every area of our life. He gives us enough light for the next step. He never allows us to be tempted above that which we are able to endure. He grows our faith one step and one day at a time. As we serve Him, He gives us sufficient power for every job. He gives us enough strength for each day. He compensates for our little faith. He gives us the capacity to do that which pleases Him.

He is sufficient for our duress.

Paul was going through great duress. In addition to his credibility as an apostle being questioned and numerous difficulties, he was also dealing with failing eyesight. He prayed three times for God to take away this thorn in the flesh, but God did not. Instead, God gave Paul something more superior. God gave him grace to endure this trial. This grace was God’s strength being made perfect in Paul’s weakness. It was under this difficult circumstance that the power of Christ worked in and through Paul. He was thankful for the trial and became a greater Christian because of it. Don’t allow difficulties and stress to rob you of experiencing His sufficiency.

He is sufficient for our duration.

He gives sufficient grace for each step and the advancing years of our life journey. “As thy days, so shall thy strength be” (Deuteronomy 33:25b). I think of my good friend Dr. Don Sisk, who has written the books Fourth Quarter and Overtime. He might be the most active and hardworking man in his eighties. He keeps up a demanding travel and speaking schedule that takes him around the world. He exemplifies resilience and doing as much as he is able to for the Lord. Don’t let age, weakness, or setbacks hinder you from doing what you can for God. God gives us strength and opportunities for our duration.

He is sufficient for our departure.

None of us know when the Lord will take us home to be with Him, but when that time comes, God will be sufficient in that great event. Paul spoke of putting off this earthly tabernacle and putting on one that is heavenly and not made with hands. Peter spoke of leaving his earthly tabernacle. God is sufficient for that moment. We will be able to say that death is gain. We will be able to say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

He gives us enough to get us through. God is sufficient in His grace for every need and every step of the journey.

Have a sufficient God Morning!
