Today’s Verse:
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: ~Job 19:25
This morning, we celebrate the greatest miracle ever to occur: the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. His resurrection was a literal, physical resurrection. Where once there was death, he became alive again! The hope of Christianity rests on this miraculous accomplishment. The Old Testament prophets had faith in his resurrection: Abraham had faith in this resurrection when he obeyed God concerning the sacrifice of his son Isaac (Heb. 11:17-19). David prophesied of His resurrection in Ps. 16:10. Jonah being in the belly of a whale for three days and nights was a figure of Christ being in the grave and rising again. In our devotion this morning, we see that Job spoke of and had great hope in the resurrection of our Lord. Let us rejoice this morning that Jesus lives!
We see the PHENOMENA of the resurrection.
“But God raised him from the dead… But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption,” Acts 13:30,37. Three days earlier, Jesus was pronounced dead; taken down from the cross; wrapped in new, fine linen; and laid in a borrowed tomb. On that resurrection morning, God raised Jesus up just as He said. There was no decay in that body. As He was lying on that slab, breath came again into His lungs, light came into those eyes, warmth came again into His flesh, and Jesus came out of those grave clothes alive and risen from the dead. Death had no hold on Him! The boulder blocking the entrance of the cave was rolled away, and Jesus walked out in His own power. The resurrection of Christ is the hope and crux of the gospel message. He lives!
We see the FACT of the resurrection.
Jesus was seen of the apostles and 500 other witnesses during the 40 days He remained on earth. When He arose from the dead, many things considered unbreakable were broken. The Roman seal on that boulder was broken. The law could not hold Him down! The Roman soldiers assigned to guard His tomb were broken in their morale when He arose. No band of men, legion, or army can withstand His power. Death could not hold Him. The grave in which He once lay was empty. There are many graves or monuments in the world that people go to see where famous people are buried. However, when you go to the garden tomb where Jesus was laid, there is no body because He is risen!
We see FAITH in the resurrection.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved,” Rom. 10:9. Faith in Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection from the dead saves every sinner. Job had faith in the resurrection! He said, “I know my redeemer liveth!” Jesus lives! Faith in a resurrected Savior gives us hope for eternity. It gives hope for the daily grind. It gives us power to walk in the newness of life of Christ. Because He lives, we shall live also.
We see the FUTURE and the resurrection.
“…he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.” Job could see the future. He saw the day when Jesus would return and establish His kingdom on earth. Jesus lives, and Jesus reigns! The future for every believer is glorious and great!
Rejoice this morning that Jesus lives and reigns on high. Be bold in your witness, and let others know that Jesus saves and never fails.
