Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. ~Proverbs 3:5-8
Having good health is a blessing! Good health comes from proper care of our bodies and spirit. It entails eating right, exercise, adequate vitamins, managed stress, and good relationships. We should not only strive for good physical health, but also good spiritual health. This morning, let us consider the basic essentials for good spiritual health that the Lord blesses.
We must have dedicated FAITH. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Faith does not have a plan B. It is not relying on a humanly-devised strategic plan, but letting God show Himself strong on our behalf. It was Abraham being strong in faith concerning the promise of Isaac, and not doubting the promise. It was Moses standing at the shoreline of the Red Sea and waiting for the salvation of the Lord. It was Elijah having confidence in God’s promise to take care of him at the brook Cherith. Dedicated faith does not worry: instead, it patiently waits. Dedicated faith is praying for the impossible and watching God do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.
We must diligently FOLLOW. “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This is when we diligently commit the matter to prayer and say, “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” This means every part of the plan, process, and performance is given to the Lord. It is following the Lord as He leads, even though He only shows us enough light for the next step! It means even though what unfolds does not make sense, we follow Him. It means even if the Lord places a detour in our path, we will follow. It means even if the path does not make sense, we still follow. It is a diligent submission to the Lord’s sovereignty in all matters.
We must decisively FORSAKE. “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” We must forsake second-guessing the Lord. We must forsake a disobedient spirit. We must forsake a rebellious attitude. This means having faith that the result of our situation is God’s best for our life. It is not trying to manipulate our situation to affect the outcome. It is testifying to those who know us that we are resolved to be faithful to God.
We see a dependable FULFILLMENT. “It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.” This is the ultimate fulfillment. We are devoid of bitterness, ill-will, envy, jealousy, and anxious care. We are of a good spirit and happy contentment. We are filled with joy and rejoicing. Our cup is overflowing. We are filled with enthusiasm and are excited about what the Lord has in store for us next. It is indicative that we are in fellowship with the Lord and walking in the light as He is in the light.
Good spiritual health is an essential for holy living. Good spiritual health is essential in order to win the war over temptation, sin, and fleshly appetites. It is God’s means for preventing discouragement and a defeated spirit.
Are you in good spiritual health? Meditate on the truths contained in Prov. 3:5-8, and have a victorious Christian life!
Have a healthy God Morning!
