Kiss and Make Up
Today’s Verse:
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. ~Psalm 2:12
Have you ever told two people who have been quarrelling, “Why don’t you kiss and make up?” This is an idiom we use to encourage people to reconcile and be friends with each other. Ps. 2 is a Psalm that describes the rebellion of man during the Great Tribulation. It is a warning of how God will pour His wrath on them at Jesus’ Second Coming. Ps. 2:10-12 are words of prevention and wisdom. It is an admonishment on the importance of a faith relationship with the Lord.
There must the conciliation of FORGIVENESS.
“Kiss the Son, lest he be angry…” I believe all of us must be dutifully conscious of our relationship with the Lord. The Psalm starts off by asking, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” When we get sideways with those who have spiritual authority in our lives, our rebellion is really against God and not just the person in spiritual authority. The sins of envy, jealousy, bitterness, anger, wrath, malice, evil speaking, unkindness, and forgiveness lead to a grieving of God’s Spirit. The breaking of God’s commandments eventually leads to His chastening hand to get our attention that we have been rebellious and unrepentant. Let us remember, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Kiss the Son: reconcile and seek His forgiveness.
There must be the commitment of FAITH.
“Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” Everyone must have faith in the Lord. There is saving faith that is the first step and leads to our salvation. There must be stalwart faith whereby every detail of our life is committed to Him. Our tendency is to have faith when we are in trouble. We must come to the place where we are on a moment-by-moment basis: “Walk by faith, not by sight.” We must have faith in His commandments. We must have faith in the commission He has given us. “Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.” We must have faith in the plan God has for our life. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and he delighteth in his way.”
There must be the closeness of FELLOWSHIP.
The Lord desires that we draw near unto Him. A sobering thought for all of us is, “Am I closer to others more than I am with the Lord?” I mean, after all, the Lord knows us better than we know ourselves. He loves us and desires that we are close and not casual with Him. In Ps. 1, we are encouraged to have closeness by having the tree of our life planted by the rivers of water and our roots so deep, we flourish year round. Closeness is telling the Lord everything in our lives and in our hearts. Closeness is having extended seasons of prayer and Bible reading. Closeness is being a blessing to many other people.
We should endeavor to maintain reverence, respect, and unreserved love for the Lord. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Let’s keep our relationship with the Lord real, close, and fervent.
