Men of Truth

Today's Verse:
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? ~Daniel 3:14
How important is truth to you? Truth consists of absolute facts that are essential for our belief and behavior. What we believe determines how we behave. Truth is pure honesty. Truth is authenticity in the representation of facts. The opposite of truth is falsity and lies. This morning, we are examining what it means to be men of truth. King Nebuchadnezzar asked the three young Hebrew men, “Is it true?”
Men of truth are men of integrity.
Integrity speaks of the truthfulness, honesty, veracity, and righteousness of a man. The king asked the three young Hebrew men, “Is it true?” They were men who were true to God. They said, “Our God whom we serve....” They made it very clear that they served the living and true God. They would not bow to idols. They did not deny the accusations made against them. They did not make excuses over why they did not bow. They were true to the convictions that they came to Babylon with. They would not defile themselves with the king’s food offered to idols, the king’s earthly promotion, or the king’s law to bow to his monstrous image.
Men of truth are men who are inviolable.
These men were honest, but they were also holy. They testified that they knew their God could deliver them from the fiery furnace. Furthermore, they said if God did not deliver them, they still would not bow to the monstrous image. Everything in their lives was at stake! Their position, wealth, and lives were all at risk. However, holy men will not bow, and they also will not bend. Money cannot buy them. A chance to save their lives from a fiery furnace could not buy them. Men of this caliber are rare and difficult to find.
Men of truth are men who are intrepid.
These men demonstrated unusual courage. They were the minority among their peers, but they were not afraid. They would be made a public spectacle by being thrown into the fiery furnace, but they were not afraid. They faced the flames of the fiery furnace with a courageous calmness that was unheard of anywhere. As they were cast into the fire, there was no crying, wailing, or pathetic noise. These men teach us what real courage is in the midst of intense pressure.
Men of truth are men who are invincible.
They were not alone in the fire. Jesus was with them in the fire! When they were commanded by the king to come out of the fiery furnace, nothing about their person showed signs of being burned or even the smell of smoke. They were unharmed the entire time they were in the fire. These men were fireproof! They did not burn! It was evident that their bodies were yielded to God. The fire could not harm them.
As men of truth, these men demonstrated that principles and biblical convictions are non-negotiables that are to be lived out. Men of truth make the best leaders. Men of truth are the foundation of a church, a society, and every home. Be a man or woman who is defined by truth, honesty, conviction, and purity. Live above the world and its corruption by living out the truth.
