Mr. Clean

Today’s Verse:

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. ~Psalm 119:1

Mr. Clean® is the registered trademark name for a line of household cleaning products. All products sold under that name carry the reputation of thorough cleaning. Psalm 119:1 refers to the spiritual man who is undefiled in the way. It speaks of God’s blessing on the man who is set apart for God’s glory and who, under the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s Word, is living a sanctified life. He is referred to as “the undefiled in the way.” Let us see, this morning, a man whom I refer to as "Mr. Clean."

We see the righteous.

This man is righteous. He attains his righteousness through faith alone in Jesus Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. Being righteous is being just like God. Job is referred to as a righteous man. This man keeps the law of the Lord and seeks Him with all of his heart. He is not mischievous or evil in his heart. He does not sin on purpose. He walks in the way of the Lord. He is doing the will of God from the heart, and he does all that pleases God.

We see the reverential.

He is a man who keeps God’s testimonies and precepts diligently. He has respect unto all of God’s commandments. His prayer is that his ways are directed to keep the statutes of the Lord. He has a high reverence for and obedience to God’s Word. When we read through Psalm 119, we quickly realize that this is “the Word of God Psalm." An upright, or undefiled, man prays that God will open his eyes to behold wondrous things out of God’s law. He humbles himself and realizes that God uses afflictions to teach him His Word. In every sense of the term, this man is God-fearing.

We see the reaching.

The word undefiled means complete, sound, whole, or entire. It is a word that is repeatedly translated upright or perfect. The word perfect is the peak, or apex, of spiritual maturity. It is striving for the full measure of the stature of Christ. It sees that the goal in spiritual maturity is conformity to the image of Christ. He is the upright in the way. He is reaching forth for the prize, the high calling of God which is in Christ Jesus. We are to be reaching for Christlikeness. We are to be reaching by diligently adding the spiritual graces to our life, beginning with faith and reaching the ultimate, which is charity. The undefiled in the way is always growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We see the rejoicing.

This man is called “blessed.” Blessed means happy. He is happy and contented in his walk with the Lord. He is settled and has no desire for anything other than God. He is happy because his sins are forgiven and Heaven is his home. He is happy because God loves him and he loves God. He is happy because he is in the way. Are you happy in God’s Word? Are you happy in the way? Are you happy, reaching forth to the goal of conforming to the image of Christ? This man has an enduring happiness. He has an exciting happiness. He has an exclusive happiness. This morning, let the defining of your spiritual life be that you are blessed because you are the undefiled in the way.

Have a sanctified God Morning!
