The Marks of a God Man

Today's Verse:
But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing. ~Deuteronomy 24:18
Several years ago, after a Wednesday evening service, I had the privilege of helping a young, career-age man and woman receive assurance of their salvation. They were both so happy about how wonderful it is to know they are saved and eternally secure. I told them it is important that they start the Christian life living for God and showing the marks of a saved person. In Deuteronomy 24, we see God reminding the Hebrews to live a right testimony and to demonstrate the marks of a redeemed person. This morning, let us see the critical marks of a God man.
He must be compliant.
“Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.” Notice where it says, “as I commanded them, so shall ye observe to do.” In Deuteronomy, there were many commands given to the Israelites. These commands were to be observed and followed when they entered into the land of promise. God wanted them to live according to His laws so that He could bless them. God’s people should be marked by obedience. God said, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” Peter said, “We must obey God.” Be compliant!
He must have kindness.
“When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.” In the day we live in, kindness is a lost virtue. Kindness is when we show consideration and put the needs of others ahead of ourselves. It is caring for another person. God wanted His people to exercise kindness for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. Kindness is grace at work through us. Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another. Be kind!
He must be compassionate.
“When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.” Dr. Lee Roberson said, "Compassion is your hurt in my heart." Compassion is love exercised on purpose. It is not just having concern, but doing something about it. When the Hebrews worked a field during harvest, an act of compassion was leaving “handfuls of purpose” for the stranger, fatherless, and widow to gather after him. Compassion is seeking to save that which is lost. God blesses our compassion. Be compassionate!
He must be consecrated.
“Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.” Miriam was chastened with leprosy for being critical of Moses, and she was shut out of the camp for seven days. The entire congregation was stopped from progress until her seven days were completed. First, we must seek continuous cleansing for sin. We must be careful of becoming self-righteous and thinking that we have no sin. "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us" (1 John 1:10). Second, we must be separated from sin. God’s Word makes it very clear that the best way to win over sin is to either flee from it or to keep a big distance from it. Consecration is being set apart to God. It is pursuing holiness, without which no man shall see God. Be consecrated!
Remember, you were once a slave to sin before Jesus saved you. Now, you are redeemed and are to live as a child of God. Make sure that you live the marks of a God man.
