Yes, He Knows!
Today's Verse:
O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. ~Psalm 139:1-2
One of the effects of being married for a long time is that both spouses know each other very well. In fact, they can anticipate the other’s reactions, responses, and rejections. They know each other’s tastes, preferences, and dislikes. Sometimes when one spouse is deep in contemplation, the other spouse can discern what he or she is thinking. Among unmarried people, knowing so much about another person could be creepy and frightening. However, this morning we want to consider the fact that God knows everything about us! This morning, let us consider the thought, “Yes, He Knows!”
There is the thorough scrutiny.
David said, “Thou hast searched me, and known me.” God has a spotlight on our every thought, every motive, and every action. He knows when we are up and when we are down. He knows when we are positive and when we are negative. He knows what makes us happy and what makes us sad. He knows if we are too proud and need humbling. He knows if our attitude is not a blessing to Him and to others. He knows our innermost feelings when we are hurting and don’t know how to express what we feel. He knows our hurting when the burdens are great. He knows when we are struggling with a sin or weight that is besetting us. He knows how to deal with us better than anyone else.
There is the thoughtful sympathy.
“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it…How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!” David was overwhelmed that God’s knowledge of him was so perfect. More than that, David was overwhelmed at how much God loved him. He considered the blessing of such knowledge too wonderful for him. He came to the realization that God’s thoughts of him were intricate and intimate. When we know too much about another person, our human nature might get turned off. However, with God, His thoughts of us are precious and innumerable. Nobody has a better perspective on who we are and our potential than God.
There is the thankful satisfaction.
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” David was thankful for being fearfully and wonderfully made. He was thankful that God made him with a purpose in mind. We should be thankful that God was not random when He made us. He made us with a grand purpose and mission in mind. He made us with significance to accomplish something that would be lifelong and lasting. What are we doing with our lives? How are we using the days God has given? Have we arrived to the realization that God does not make mistakes in anything that He does?
Yes, He knows! And because He knows, let us be transparent in our walk with Him. David concluded this psalm with a prayer request: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Have an inspired God Morning!
